In Israel, for the first time in 12 years, a government can be formed without Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is the hope of the journalist Anshel Pfeffer (Anshel Pfeffer) in an article for the newspaper Haaretz. We are talking about reaching a coalition agreement between the leader of the right-wing Yamina party, Naftali Bennett, and the head of the centrist Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, who heads the opposition. The newspaper notes that this is the first step towards "getting rid" of Netanyahu and finally forming a government without him. If Lapid and Bennett manage to reach an agreement, the latter can become Prime Minister of Israel for the next two years. In addition, Lapid can take the post of Foreign Minister. Then they will have to replace each other. Benjamin Netanyahu has led the Israeli government since 2009. At the same time, over the past two years, the country has been experiencing a crisis related to the inability to form a government. During this time, four election campaigns for the Knesset (Parliament) were held. The last election was held in March 2021. Netanyahu won the right to form a government, but he failed to win the support of the parliamentary majority: to form a government, 61 deputies out of 120 are needed. Then President Reuven Rivlin handed the mandate to Yair Lapid. The deadline for the formation of the government expires from 2 to 3 June.
